Guarana is a small tree that grows in the Amazon, whose seeds contain the highest concentration of caffeine of any plant. Its red fruits with whitish flesh cover a white core marked with a black dot, which earned it the name Eye of the Forest given by the Mawé Indians. The fruit is dried and then pounded with water to obtain a paste which is then smoked. Guarana is used as an ingredient in cosmetics and in many beverages due to its energizing properties.
