Originally from Kashmir, the lemon was introduced to China more than three thousand years ago. Coming as far as Mesopotamia, the fruit is used during traditional rites. It was not until the Middle Ages that it came to France, where it then adorned the gardens of Versailles and the Tuileries Palace. The lemon will be used by sailors in the 17th century to guard against scurvy during their long sea crossings.
