Called maracuja, the passion fruit is native to Brazil. The origin of its name is the fruit of the flowering imagination of the Jesuit missionaries of the Caribbean. Over time, the passion fruit reached Central America, Asia, Africa and the West Indies. This delicious fruit with an exotic taste arrived in European countries in the 17th century in 1629. It was the Spaniards who introduced them.
